About John, Owner & Lead Technician — JBN Mechanical LLC
John Mason has spent more than 30 years in the mechanical trades, building a career defined by technical expertise, institutional credibility, and a straightforward approach to doing business.
Before founding JBN Mechanical in 2013, John spent a decade at Penn State University's Office of Physical Plant — one of the largest university facilities operations in the country, responsible for maintaining 933 buildings across 8,556 acres at University Park alone. As Supervisor of Project Planning and Estimating, he managed a staff of 25 planners and estimators across mechanical, electrical, and architectural disciplines, overseeing project scoping, cost estimating, and scheduling for both routine maintenance and major capital renovation projects university-wide.
During that same period, John was elected President of Penn State's University Staff Advisory Council (USAC), representing thousands of staff employees across all university campuses in an advisory capacity to the President, Provost, and senior administration.
In 2013, John founded JBN Mechanical LLC in State College, Pennsylvania, bringing that same discipline and accountability to residential and light commercial HVAC service and new installations. JBN specializes in geothermal ground-source heat pumps, cold-climate air source heat pumps, and high-efficiency system replacements — complex installations that require the kind of technical depth and project management experience most HVAC contractors simply don't have.
John works every job personally. There are no subcontractors, no commissioned salespeople, and no private equity ownership behind the JBN name. Every customer works directly with John from the first call through final system startup.
JBN Mechanical has earned 136 Google reviews at 4.9 stars, a Yelp 5.0 rating, an A+ BBB rating, Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite recognition, and American Standard dealer awards every year from 2017 through 2026.
For homeowners in Centre County considering a major HVAC investment, John offers the rare combination of hands-on technical skill, large-scale project management experience, and the accountability that only comes from an owner who stakes his name on every job.
